Vacation Notice: Taking a Protest Break. Will Return 2019-01-07

(~1 minutes to read)

I’ve posted an article on my website every week since November 1st, 2015. This is article number 174. Most of the stuff I write here is prompted or inspired by real news articles. But the brouhaha about the song “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” did a so-much-better job than I can of satirizing current events in general and the current climate of sensitivity in particular that my brain froze.

Competing with that stupidity is the shambles in the UK as Brexit continues to divide a nation for all the wrong reasons.

And of course there is an elephant in the newsroom, whose name is Nellie. If you need that explained, here’s an excerpt from the lyrics to a song…

Nellie the elephant packed her trunk
And said goodbye to the circus
Off she went with a trumpety trump
Trump, trump, trump…

It’s difficult to take a piece of non-Trump news and make it more risible than Trump news.

Ironically, the word “trump” is an early sixteenth-century alteration of “triumph”—a great victory or achievement. We still don’t know if his victory was legitimate, legally or morally. But based on what I read on a range of newsfeeds from multiple countries around the world, he is the out-and-out, absolute, complete and utter, comprehensive, total antithesis of what I was raised to regard as a decent person. He scares me. He disgusts me.

And the news is full of him. Trump, trump, trump…

In the face of so much competition, I’ve decided to take a protest break. I need to get over the frustration of so much simultaneous stupidity; frustration that’s interfering with the creative juices.

I will post here again on January 7th, 2019.

Merry Christmas!
