Kelvin or Reg?

Now that I’ve reached an important milestone for me–i.e., the completion of a shareable draft of my retirement planning book, I have to make a big decision.

Do I continue to write under the pseudonym “Kelvin D. Hatch”? Or do I “come out”?

Kelvin D. Hatch (“KDH”) sounds much more impressive to me than Reg Gothard (“REG”), but then I’ve lived with my own name a lot longer, so I’m entitled think it’s “bleh” compared with KDH. But my book plans include seeking speaking engagements, and I’m not sure I’d respond instantly to people who try to attract my attention by saying, “Hey, Kelvin…”

One thing’s for sure. I have to do some drastic housekeeping on this website. So… over the next month or twenty-four (I’m a really good procrastinator!), I’ll be

  • Changing all my humorous articles from “posts” to “pages”.
  • Adding a bio that describes me better in terms of the retirement planning and speaking thing.
  • Adding a link to my e-commerce website, wherein my plays already exist, and my book and related products and services will be placed. The e-commerce site has been in existence for about four years now, but I haven’t made it “live” yet.
  • Most likely paying good money to get a professional do-over for the site.

In between all this, I have to learn how to market myself and my writing on social media. I’m pretty sure I should have started that months ago, but I really didn’t know when or even if I’d get the book “finished”.

So, anyway, that’s my life for the last six months and likely the next six months too. Wish me luck!

And in the meantime, which name do you think I should use for my writing?

  • Kelvin D. Hatch
  • Reg Gothard
  • Reginald E. Gothard (yes, my initials spell my name…)

Feel free to leave a comment with your thoughts.
