It’s official! I’m now a multi award-winning playwright!
Last night, I was privileged to receive an award for Outstanding New Play by an Alberta Playwright, for my most recent script, “Coffee with Gabe”.
The occasion was the Alberta Drama Festival Association’s 2017 Foothills Zone One-Act Play Festival, and four original plays, three of which were new, were presented.
This is the second time I’ve received this award, so I now have to believe that winning it the first time (with “Act III” in 2015) wasn’t a fluke!
Thank you to adjudicator Valerie Planche for giving me this recognition.
Many thanks to Logan Coutts, Safia Comtois-Mohamad and Shamir Ladhani for doing such a great job performing the piece, and to everyone else who helped polish the script and stage the production.
And congrats to Shamir for picking up the Honourable Mention plaque for Outstanding Male Actor.
The adjudicator’s comment went something along the lines of, “I hope this play goes far.”
I now need to fight the urge to interpret that comment cynically or negatively, and then work out how to make the “play go far”!
