Headline: London Buses to Be Powered by Coffee
Needless to say, this was a clickbait headline—coffee’s far too valuable a commodity to waste on powering transportation.
But apparently, the new biofuel will be a blend of oils extracted from the coffee grounds and diesel. I’m not sure if this is an attempt to be innovative in the use of waste, or if Transport for London hopes that buses on a caffeine fix will run quicker.
I’ve not been able to confirm a rumour I heard that Starbucks has reciprocated by adding diesel to their menus. Just as well—I can’t imagine anybody going into a Starbucks and asking for a Grande Low Sulphur.
In days of old, people thought the streets of London were paved with gold—now we can add the smell of coffee to our imaginary walk along London’s golden streets.
I wonder if my Golf TDi will run on coffee grounds?
